Confections Quilt Along - Month 5

We are now to month 5 in this years quilt along! Don't worry, if you are behind or just joining us, you can still go back and catch up on previous months. 

Remember, all blocks should be 6 1/2".

Cutting the White/Background Fabric

Remember, for your white fabric you can simply cut off what you need from your yardage each month, no need to precut it down to anything.

  • Cut 2 @ 3 7/8" x WOF
    • Subcut into 20 - 3 7/8" squares
  • Cut 2 @ 2 3/8" x WOF
    • Subcut into 20 - 2 3/8" squares

Cutting Month 5 Colored Fabric

From each Month 5 section you will need

  • 1 - 4 1/2" Square
  • 1 - 2 5/8" square

Making the Quilt Block

Block will be 6 1/2" square.

  1. Cut the 2 3/8" white squares in half on the diagonal.
  2. Fold the 2 5/8" color square in half in both directions, finger pressing the center fold.
  3. Fold the 2 3/8" white triangles in half across the long side and finger press the center fold.
  4. Line up 1 triangle on 1 side of the square, matching center marks. Sew 1/4".
  5. Repeat along opposite side of square. Press.
  6. Repeat with remaining two triangles on the remaining sides. 
  7. Trim the dog ears.

  1. Cut the 4 1/2" color square in half on the diagonal in both directions creating 4 squares.
  2. Fold each triangle in half along the long side and finger press the center fold.
  3. Line up 1 triangle on one side of your square, matching the fold with the corner of the inside colored square. Sew 1/4".
  4. Repeat along opposite side of square. Press.
  5. Repeat with last two color triangles on the remaining sides.
  6. Trim the dog ears.

  1. Cut the 3 7/8" white square in half on the diagonal. 
  2. Fold each triangle in half aong the long side and finger press the center fold.
  3. Line up 1 triangle on one side of your square, matching the fold with the corner of the inside white square. Sew 1/4"
  4. Repeat along the opposite side of the square. Press.
  5. Repeat with the last white triangles on the remaining sides.
  6. Trim the dog ears.

Repeat these same steps with all of your Month 5 colors to make 10 Month 5 blocks!
