We love scrappy projects. It's almost like getting a free quilt. Bringing pieces of fabric from past projects to come together and create something new. And I love the memories that they can create. Maybe one piece is from your first baby quilt or the first grandbaby quilt for some; from that perfect vacation (fabric is the best souvenir); maybe one from that quilt that took forever and made you feel so proud when it was finally done. It can feel like a story within the quilt.
We've put together a quick list of some of our favorite scrappy projects. Maybe one of these will inspire you to dig into your scrap bin and create your "free" quilt. Or utilize those scraps to create a quilt that will be gifted to add a new story to the fabrics.
Scrappy Flower - careful starting this one, it's addicting and once you start you can't seem to finish. I still go back to this one when I need a fun little project. You can create a full quilt, or make just a few for a fun colorful table runner or placemats.
Citrus Grove - use your scraps to create your perfect citrus flower orchard.
Sea Glass - highlight some of those favorite scraps on a white and gray almost square in a square background.
Zentangle - want to practice and perfect your curves? By the time you finish your blocks for Zentangle, you will be an expert with those curves and have a fun rainbow quilt to show for it.
Scrappy Star Garland - need a smaller project for a smaller stash? Pull red, white and blue scraps for a patriot garland. Or pull out the red, green and gold for Christmas decor.
Scrappy Leaf Block - these fun fall inspired leaves can be made into a full quilt, or a simple table runner, placemats or pillows depending on how many scraps you have to work with.
Awestruck - we love patterns on patterns and Awestruck gives us a "trellis" of sorts to highlight those fun scraps.
Evergreen - this one is perfect for larger scraps. Build a forest of trees, or a pillow or two.
Bunny Buns - bright colorful bunnies with fluffy tails come together to make this fun quilt.
I Love You - scrappy fabrics could provide you with lots of different hearts to bring together in this quilt.
Rock Concert - rainbow scraps come together to create this fun guitar quilt.
Confetti - each square in this quilt could come from a different piece of scrap fabric for a fun colorful quilt.
In the Clouds - scrappy fabrics are highlighted in this quilt as hot air balloons.
Dusklight - scrappy flowers are perfect to climb up this gray trellis.
Spritz - choose your favorite color for the background of this quilt and your scraps will sing in this improv quilt.
Mix Tape - this quilt was practically made for scraps. Creating those mixed tapes are almost scrappy in themselves, pulling our favorite songs from different places.
Checkmate - we used more than 100 different scraps in this quilt. Having different fabrics create each flower adds a lot of movement across this checkerboard quilt.
Pink Lemonade - pull out all of those pinks, yellows and greens to create a scrappy version of this summer inspired quilt.
Frolic - mix and match those scraps to pull in lots of fun fabrics for each of these whirly shapes.
Baby It's Cold - this quilt is perfect for all of those blue scraps. And lots of little scraps to pull in for the snowmen.
Fall Harvest - veggies come in all different colors already so scraps are perfect to pull out for these bright veggies.
Paradise - our scrappy version of this quilt is one of my favorites, it came out so bright and colorful. It ended up feeling like summer in a quilt.
Gone Fishin' - your green and blue scraps are perfect for these trees and waves. Then let each child's personality come out in the fabric you choose for their clothes.
First Position - scraps could make these ballerinas shine, let their personality out with bright fun fabrics.
Whirl - rainbow scraps make this quilt fun and colorful. We've also done a Christmas version using red, green and yellow scraps.
Confections Quilt Along - this quilt is perfect to dig into a scrap bin. Use your favorite colors or keep it rainbow themed. And get lots of practice with these great traditional blocks.
Scrappy Pre-Cut Christmas Quilt - create 10" squares from your scraps to create this quilt. Use red, green gold and silver like we did for a Christmas quilt. Or choose a favorite color combination for a fun Christmas gift.
Lucky Charm Block - green scraps are definitely a necessity for this quilt. Separate the fabrics into sets for 2 per block, or mix them up completely for a very scrappy finish.
