Learn to Quilt

I want to learn how to quilt but I don’t know where to start

Is this you?  Are you looking at all of these beautiful quilts and want to learn how to make one of your own?  You’ve bought your first sewing machine and now your stuck on what to do next.  If that’s the case, you are in the right place.  We have lots of tutorials and information to help you get off to a great start.

First, let’s gather our supplies and make sure our tools are prepped and ready to go.  We have a few guides to help you choose the tools and rulers that you will use over and over.  The most basic tools you will need besides your sewing machine will be a cutting mat, ruler and rotary cutter.  Technically, you can make a quilt without these items as long as you have a way of measuring and cutting your fabric, but these three tools will make your life so much easier and set you up for success.  You don’t need to start with the largest cutting mat and ruler, start with something small that you can afford and then work your way up until you find what you like to work with best.  We’ve created a few guides to help you get started.

If you are brand new to quilting and are worried about piecing, quilting and binding your first quilt, we have you covered.  I think starting with a simple rag quilt is a great way to create a quilt from beginning to end for the absolute beginner.  It’s the type of quilt I recommend when teaching kids how to quilt.  It gives them the confidence to then try something else and gives them a quilt that they can easily complete from start to finish.  And bonus, it's the perfect way to use up fabric and batting scraps.
